Ayurveda at our hotel in the Allgäu

Ayurveda – the ancient science of life – and the clear, invigorating nature of the Allgäu share a single idea: health begins when body, mind, and surroundings are in balance. At the Allgäu Sonne, your Ayurveda hotel in the Allgäu, we bring the two together. Ayurvedic treatments in our spa, a weekly Ayurveda day with talks and workshops, and immersive yoga and Ayurveda weeks. Whether it’s a first encounter or a deeper exploration, you’ll find your own path into Ayurveda here.

The art of Ayurvedic treatment

In Ayurveda, every person is treated as a whole – and every person is different. That’s why our trained therapists shape each treatment – from Ayurveda and Abhyanga massages to herbal poultice treatments – around you.

Abhyanga

Woman lying face down receiving sound therapy with a singing bowl on her back

The best-known of all Ayurvedic massages, sometimes called “The Great Oiling” in the West, is the epitome of deep relaxation. Performed with warm herbal oils, this full-body treatment is among the most restorative in Ayurvedic medicine. It weaves together several techniques designed to revitalise the body, while gentle strokes and long, flowing movements quietly clear the mind. Abhyanga strengthens the immune system, has a rejuvenating effect, and leaves the body with a deep sense of cleansing, balance, and release.

approx. 75 minutes | €140

Pinda Sveda

The Ayurvedic herbal poultice massage belongs to the warming treatments of Ayurvedic medicine. Firmly wrapped, fragrant herbal poultices are moved in alternating firm and gentle strokes along the muscle lines and meridians. The warmth allows the muscles to release even more deeply, while the body’s energy flow is encouraged. Circulation improves and the tissues are gently cleansed. Pinda Sveda is traditionally performed after a full Abhyanga massage. The warmth of the poultices supports cellular renewal, which is why it is also considered a rejuvenation therapy. It can be given as a full-body or targeted treatment.

Garshan massage

Person receiving back massage with white cloth gloves lying on green towel

The silk-glove massage is an Ayurvedic dry-massage technique. The skin is brushed, exfoliated, and massaged with silk gloves – without oil. The effect is stimulating and warming. Brisk, rhythmic movements get the circulation and lymphatic flow moving, making Garshan an ideal choice for water retention, fatigue, sluggishness, and a feeling of heaviness. It also prepares the skin beautifully for further treatments.

Mukabyhanga

Woman receiving relaxing facial massage at spa

This Ayurvedic facial massage works with specific energy points and centres to bring them back into balance. It has a deeply relaxing effect on the skin and facial muscles, gets the flow of energy in the head moving again, and releases inner pressure, tension, and strain.

approx. 30 minutes | €60

Padabhyanga

Foot massage with oil in a spa room with candlelight

Our Ayurvedic foot massage stimulates the vital points of the feet, releasing blockages so energy can flow freely again. Padabhyanga is strengthening and revitalising, supporting the body’s own restorative processes. It’s a welcome treatment for exhaustion, sleeplessness, and restlessness, easing the body into a state of deep wellbeing – and one of the most effective ways to reduce stress.

approx. 45 minutes | €90

Ayurveda-inspired cuisine

Ayurveda doesn’t end on the massage couch at the Allgäu Sonne, your Ayurveda hotel in the Allgäu. Every Wednesday – in step with our Ayurveda day – our kitchen pairs each course of the gourmet half-board with an Ayurvedic alternative. The day opens Ayurvedically too, perhaps with an Ayurvedic porridge or drink at breakfast. And during our Yoga & Ayurveda weeks, the kitchen extends the gourmet half-board with Ayurvedic alternatives across nearly every course.

Good to know: Ayurvedic dishes are also available individually, à la carte.
